Fernmind Unilectic presents the Friends of Design to the Nation: their debut eponymous album is globally available at all major online music retailers.
The London-based duo employs pop sensibilities from the furthest reaches of time, reading, cultures and spirituality with goal of balancing the binary poles of Logic and Love, purifying the soul of the seeker. The first true supergroup formed of the Nation for the Nation, its talent spans the Kingdom’s furthest Western and Eastern reaches.
Lead vocals are provided by blinged out Kazakh shamaness Asela “Sally” Deen (aka the Matronita Minor), Hyperwood film star, intergalactic (meta)model and face of the Verandah Vanguard. Sally studied of Infinity and Computation in Siberia and vocal technique with the Chymkent branch of the Sarmoung Music Academy.
Production, beats and songbook are by Australian-Russo-Indonesian Tailor of the Good Garment (of Dependent Product and Halo Produkshuns fame).
The eponymous album is 16 tracks of sonic vibratory revolution, a fusion of space doo-wop, a Halalic revision of Spector’s wall of sound, perestroyka rock, Javanese gamelan, the nomadic aitys “battle-poetry” of the Kazakh steppes, Tuareg, post-Coltrane free jazz, Detroit techno and Austrian house music, glam and psychedelia. All framing lyrics tailored to set into motion an individuated, Sufic remembrance of our dependence: mantras for the modern age.

First single: the Pilgrimage
The Friends’ first single is “The Pilgrimage”. (Health and safety warning: this video contains strobe effects and Central Asian shamanism.)
Its lyrics concerns the bidirectional “event” of fight/pilgrimage between the two cities (the left/northern City of Logic and the right/southern City of Love.) Tailorite Sufis employ a technique known as “dhikr” or “remembrance”, meditating on this event in order to induce an altered state of consciousness and comprehend the higher Truth of Love. All to a funky space doo-wop beat.
Second single: Cup
The Friends’ second single is “Cup”.
It concerns the relationships between anger, power and distance within the self and the signs of Life.
Lyrics
The full lyrics of the album are here. Multilayered and open to interpretation, we encourage all Friends of Design to comment their personal tafsir (over the course of the month, Prof. Herman U. Ticz will be offering his expert opinion as well).
The Principles of the Friends
The principles of the Friends of Design have always been rooted in the intrinsic Divinity of Elevated Evolution for all things, in Godly Growth, in Managed Mutation, in Righteous Revolution, running through all areas of society like bifircating lines of electric fire, through all sign-to-sign interpretations we might have of Society and the Law, from the communities that comprise the human psyche, to family units and love affairs and philosophies and sciences, to the entire normative understanding of a political State itself.
It is the understanding that we bring to our music, to our lyrics, to the way of life we prescribe for you.
Everything is in fluent flux, everything is permitted, life is a laboratory and we are chemists in experimentation: but with the Goal that, ultimately, each experiment across all levels leads us closer to a Perfection that permeates through all levels. Through continual flux derives Perfection, true social evolution. Previous revolutions failed because they did not take into account that constant mental re-volution is required for there to be Progress to the Goal: not a single, linguistically interpreted political moment, but a continual dialectic within the Ummatic assembly of the lesser Mind. Let the child be suckled until it has legs to walk!
